It’s time to start livin’! Andrea Martin swings back into the Broadway revival of Pippin beginning September 2. She will reprise her Tony-winning role as Berthe for 24 performances only through September 21 at the Music Box Theatre. She takes over for another Tony winner: Priscilla Lopez.
Before winning a Tony for her performance in the Diane Paulus-helmed revival, Martin took home the trophy for her performance in My Favorite Year. Additional theater credits include Act One, Fiddler on the Roof, Young Frankenstein, Exit the King, Oklahoma!, Candide and Godspell. Martin earned two Emmy awards for her writing and creation of sketch comedy characters on SCTV. Other screen credits include The Simpsons, Anastasia, 30 Rock, Nurse Jackie, The Producers, Hedwig and the Angry Inch and My Big Fat Greek Wedding. Her book of autobiographical essays, titled Andrea Martin’s Lady Parts, will be released by Harper Collins this month.
Pippin features music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz and a book by Roger O. Hirson and tells the story of a young prince searching for his corner of the sky. In addition to Martin, the current cast includes Kyle Dean Massey as Pippin, Ciara Renee as Leading Player, John Rubinstein as Charles, Charlotte d’Amboise as Fastrada and Rachel Bay Jones as Catherine.
